Nor-West Seafoods had its beginning in 1961 when, through the Angliss Group, it funded the Engineering and Marine Services Company to develop a lobster tail processing operation in Denham, Western Australia. Two years later both Angliss and Engineering and Marine Services combined operations, under the banner E.M.S. (1963) to begin prawn trawling under the name of Planet Fisheries, in Western Australia's as yet unproven Shark Bay region.
The purchase of Nor-West Whaling gave the Company access to Australia's first purpose built prawning trawlers.
The next major change to Nor-West Seafoods occurred in December 1993 with the purchase of the Angliss Group's interests in the Company by Mr Kel Brown's Westralian Marine Group.
This very important acquisition has seen Nor-West Seafoods operations returned to Western Australian ownership and Mr Brown's dedication to the industry, shown by the completion of the first 2 new purpose built trawlers in his long term goal to re-furbish the current Nor-West fleet of 15 Prawn trawlers and 5 Scallop trawlers.
