Soltai Fishing and Processing Ltd is a tuna processing plant set up in the 1970s and located in the Western Province of the Solomon Islands. It exports aprox. 80 per cent of its catch to the European market in the form of frozen tuna loins.
Is owned by Tri-Marine whith 51percent of shares and National Provident Fund (NPF) owning 29 percent. and the remaining 20 per cent is shared by the Western Province Govt (10%) and the remaining 10% is owned by S.I. National Govt (ICSI).
By Solomon Island standards the company is a significant contributor to the provincial and national economies, employing in excess of 1,000 people. It is also one of the only examples of value added processing taking place on Solomon Island shores.
The company's new business plan aims to increase its processing capabilities from 70 tonnes a day to 150 tonnes a day.
