FloScan's entry into the marine market began in 1972 with the introduction of the first marine Gallons Per Hour meter and totalizer. During that year, Uniflite, then a builder of pleasure craft and Navy patrol boats, approved FloScan for factory installation on its boats. Within the next two years, FloScan had become the principal supplier of marine fuel flowmeters for inboard, stern drive, and outboard gas engines - a position that has remained unchanged to the present day. During the fuel shortages and energy crises of the 1970's and 80's, FloScan expanded its technology base to satisfy the needs of aircraft, automotive, and truck industries for accurate, reliable fuel flow measurement. Since that time, virtually all fuel flow instrumentation installed as original equipment in small planes, cars, and trucks has been manufactured by FloScan. By the mid-80's, FloScan's experience with diesel truck engines enabled the introduction of marine diesel fuel computers for engines up to 500 hp. By the end of the decade, a new family of high capacity flow sensors was introduced to cover gas and diesel engines up to 3000 hp. FloScan Fuel Computers are available for all gas engines up to 1500 hp and for diesels from 25 to 6000 hp.  Models are available that communicate with GPS systems to obtain a speed signal which is used to calculate and display Nautical Miles per Gallon over the bottom.  Our TwinScan line of instruments for gasoline engines combine two analog meters plus an LCD display in a single instrument housing similar to many aircraft instruments.  In addition to reducing panel space requirements by half, the new instruments are much easier to read than conventional instruments.
