Salvatore Orlando, having left Sicily, moved to the Basque Country, where, in 1923, he opened two factories, one in Guetaria and the other in Ondarroa, for the production of preserved and under-aged fish. Thanks to his entrepreneurial skills, he is one of the main players in the industrialization of the fishing industry in the Basque Country. Following the rapid development of the activity, other factories are born along the whole Basque coast fishing area and the Orlando brand is becoming more and more established on the Spanish market, extending also to the vegetable preserves sector. On the Italian market its presence has been active since 1949 with Salvatore Orlando of Genoa. GROUP EVOLUTION In 1993, the activities related to the Orlando branded canned vegetables are sold to an American multinational. The entrepreneurial tradition in the fishing industry is maintained by Ignazio Orlando, son of Salvatore, through the company Olasagasti formerly Salvatore Orlando, which combines the surnames of the founder and his wife, Simona Olasagasti. The best known brands imported directly from Olasagasti already Salvatore Orlando & C. Srl are: Orlando, Olasagasti, Bribon, El Faro, Gercor, La Marquinesa. Olasagasti and Orlando have been bringing the pleasure of high quality to the table for almost 100 years. Our fish preserves are born from an unrepeatable combination of factors, thanks to a generous nature, an ancient tradition and an advanced know-how. The Cantabrian Sea, with its rich and clean waters, provides the precious Alalunga tuna and anchovies famous all over the world. Our factory in Spain, on the Basque coasts, integrated into the local production district (Ondarroa Market Port, Fabbrica a Marquina, direct distribution) is certified AENOOR, ENEEK - Certification for organic products, MSC Marine Stewardship Council, FDA U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The "fresh" processing, which distinguishes most of the production, is a guarantee of quality, and is guaranteed by the Euskolabel brand.
