Coop feeds Swiss shoppers' hunger for food, electronics, and more. The #2 Swiss retailer (after Migros), Coop produces and sells foods and nonfoods and operates about 1,700 supermarkets, hypermarkets, gas stations, convenience stores, and restaurants.
The cooperative, which sells to more than 2.5 million member households, offers a portfolio of brands such as Naturaplan (organic food), Naturaline (textiles and cosmetics), Oecoplan (paper towels, appliances), and Max Havelaar (imported products).
Coop also owns several manufacturing operations, specialty retail chains, hotels, and a stake in a catering supplies company. Coop has been using acquisitions and joint ventures in an attempt to catch up with Migros.
