C1000 is a Dutch supermarket chain. Founded in 1981, as of the end of 2011 the chain had 419 stores and employed 32,000 people. Its market share was 13.2% and growing.
With over 400 supermarkets C1000 is the second supermarket chain in the Netherlands. C1000 is the largest supermarket chain of independent entrepreneurs in the Netherlands.
The supermarket chain operates in a rather unique manner for a supermarket using the franchise system. C1000 focus for growth is primarily on trying to be the cheapest supermarket.
The head office in Amersfoort supports entrepreneurs in their daily operations. This happens in several areas including marketing, category management, IT and real estate. The six distribution centers C1000 ensure the delivery of the C1000 supermarkets.
Friday 27 April 2012 - Supermarket group Jumbo is to convert some 300 C1000 stores to its Jumbo format and sell a further 136 outlets to Albert Heijn and the Coop, the family-owned firm said on Friday.
The switch will improve Jumbo's market position and boost its buying power, the company said. Once the supermarkets have been refitted, Jumbo will have a Dutch market share of some 20%.
The sale of supermarkets was ordered by the competition authority when Jumbo took over C1000 at the end of last year.
