Mr. Dane opened his first grocery store in 1933, which he laid the foundations for the current supermarket group. The first self-service store DEEN Supermarkets was established to Koepoortsweg in Hoorn in 1953. With promotional texts as "In DEEN quality No. 1" and "DEEN, so great there is no" was the first official store soon a success. Meanwhile, the company has grown far beyond Horn, now with 64 branches in North Holland, South Holland and Flevoland.

With the growth in the number of stores, so does the organization behind the scenes. A modern distribution center, centrally located in Horn and a distribution center in Beverwijk handle the daily flow of goods to the stores. And now with over 6,000 employees belongs to the DANE largest employers of West Friesland.
