Founded in the '30s by the fishermen of Goro, Italy, for the management of the fish market, the Copego - Cooperativa Pescatori di Goro (Consortium of the Fishermen of Goro) took over in 1970, the current connotation of companies, including several local cooperatives. Back to those years, the experiments on reproduction of shellfish, designed in collaboration with the University of Ferrara, led to the launch of mussels and clams farming. The Copego works in one of the most fertile areas of shellfish in the whole Po Delta.
Given that the fleet of Goro, dedicated to traditional fishing, is made ??of small size boats, the product is caught daily and this guarantees optimum quality.
This activity has given excellent results, and by the late 80s, the Consortium became a leader in the shellfish industry. Copego currently has the participation of over 581 members (with over 400 fishing businesses), divided into several fishing and trade categories, and marketing its products nationally and in Europe (Spain, France and Germany).
The Consortium is responsible for all the phases of the supply chain, from production to marketing. The company is constantly growing and in recent years it has significantly increased its turnover. Most of the turnover comes from the production and processing of clams, mussels and other shellfish.
The majority of turnover comes from production and processing of clams, mussels and shellfish in general.
