Welcome on WADAF web site (West African Association for the Development of Artisanal Fisheries)
Founded in 1992, ADEPA aims to contribute, on the one hand, to the economic and social development in the artisanal, maritime and continental fishing sector in West Africa, and on the other hand, to defend the interests of small-scale fishers and their organizations in this sub-region.
WADAF was born from the meeting of two wills:
The will of CEASM (Association Française pour le Développement des Activités Maritimes) to promote the artisanal fisheries professional organisations, their capacities to intervene in the field of the public policies in relation with them, but overall the will to transfer to West African NGO the responsibility and the means to accompany the actions of the artisanal fisheries professionals.
The will of the CEDEAO (Communauté Economique des Etats de l’Afrique de l’Ouest) countries fisheries administration and of the European Union to give to NGO acting West Africa the management of an important regional programme for the artisanal fisheries sector (mainly the project of “Enhancement of the artisanal fisheries products in west Africa”)
