The current UBAGO group is a 4th generation family-run company in which the management team are also shareholders. Its roots go back to the 1920s, giving it already more than 80 years of uninterrupted activity in the transformation of marine products, in accumulating experience and improvements that are constantly being adapted to consumer demands.
UBAGO were pioneers in implementing continuous flow production, which increased competitiveness and guaranteed the absence of risks, with a significant reduction in handling time of the fish and decided in the 1980s to tackle new challenges in the perishable goods market with – SMOKED SALMON – whereby taking advantage of the synergies of industrial experience and an extensive commercial network, it soon became the undisputed leader in this new category.
Having consolidated the core business, Ubago launched an enterprising plan for growth and diversification, with the backing and commitment that it means to be an intersupplier of MERCADONA: Plan UBAGO XXI – which in recent years has led to AQUACULTURE (Cultivation of mussels on the Andalusian coast, 2002), SMOKED FISH (2003), COD AND SALTED FISH (2005) thanks to a global investment that is verging on 30 M € in this period.
