El instituto Socialista de la Pesca y Acuicultura (Insopesca) is an agency under the Ministry of Popular Power for Agriculture and Land (MAT). It is the institutional executive arm of the Decree with Rank, Value and Force of Law on Fisheries and Aquaculture, whose pillars are the principles of sustainable development with a socialist vision framed by the development model promoted by the Commander President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Hugo Chávez.
Insopesca directs its actions towards the management of fisheries and aquaculture resources in the country in order to ensure their rational utilization and sustainable, in line with the existing legal framework, implementing policies on the subject issued by the MAT to foster, promote, develop and coordinate activities of fishery and aquaculture sectors, depending on the achievement of the Plan for Economic Development and Social Welfare, 2007-2013.
An example of this is the conformation of the Councils of People's Power of Fishermen and fishermen, fish and fish farmers, as primary instance of organization and participation on fisheries and aquaculture, thereby giving effect to the new legal framework for the construction of socialism century.
