SSJ was formed in 2007 by Alistair Douglas. After completing his PhD in tuna flesh quality, cold chain management and traceability he set up the company to import, auction and direct sell Southern bluefin tuna from Australia to various buyers in Japan. From there he went on to establish an importing operation in the UK and a tuna/seafood processing operation in Singapore where imports of Bigeye and Yellowfin tuna from the Maldives, PNG, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Fiji, Bali, Indoneisa, Australia, Saipan, the US etc. have been handled.
