A Cofaco nasce em 1961 no Algarve, com sede em Vila Real de Santo António. No início desta década, fruto da escassez de atum nos mares algarvios, a Cofaco desloca-se para o arquipélago dos Açores, local priviligiado de passagem do atum nas suas rotas migratórias através dos oceanos. Actualmente é uma empresa exclusivamente açoriana, situando-se os seus pólos industriais nas ilhas do Pico (Madalena do Pico) e S. Miguel (Rabo de Peixe) ----------- Cofaco was the first to launch this product in a glass package in Portugal, thus seeking to fulfill the expectations of the most demanding customers and introducing a product mainly craft made. Cofaco was created in Algarve in 1961 and its head office was in Vila Real de Santo António. The tuna fish is rare in the Algarve, so Cofaco fishes in Azores where the Tuna passes in its migration routes. Nowadays, Cofaco is mainly from the Azores and its industrial poles are concentrated in the islands of Pico (Madalena do Pico) and S. Miguel (Rabo de Peixe).
