Fisheries J.L.R. is incorporated in Rodrigues, a 100 Square Km Island at 350 nautical miles east of Mauritius which is known for its rich fishing grounds free from industrialisation and modern agriculture.
Our company harvests, processes, exports and supplies locally tropical fresh fish products from both pelagic and demersal (shallow and deep water) fish species. These include Swordfish, Yellowfin and Albacore Tuna, Mahi Mahi, Sea Bream, Red Snapper and Grouper. There is a high demand and available market for all these products, particularly for certified sustainable fish, which the company is targeting.
We are registered with the FDA and operate from the our own port at Pointe Monier Rodrigues and Mauritius Freeport Zone which are maintained to the highest standards and are certified for export of fishery products to the European Union.
Our roots go back to 1848 where our family owned business operated a salted fish & dried octopus trading company between the islands of the Mascareine, East Indies and Europe with their own cargo trading vessel M/V Jane Bell.
Today JLR continues to trade tropical fish and other fisheries products mainly for the export market, primarily to the European Union with full compliance with the HACCP, FDA and EU standard, harvesting from the Mauritius Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) which is more than 1.9 million Square Km extending from the coasts of the islands of Mauritius, Rodrigues, St Brandon (Cargados Carajos Shoals), Agalega and Tromelin.
