Salmon farming in Suðuroy started 30 years ago, but did not really come in to a regular production until 1990. This was a company called P/F Salmon River, situated in Suðuroy. This was later sold to another Salmon farmer, but due to different reasons the previous owners along with other Faroese companies took over the company again in 2003. This company today is called P/F Faroe Farming. As stated elsewhere on this web page, Faroe Farming has 3 farming sits on the Island, which gives them the possibility of producing approx 6000 tons/year. From just being a salmon farmer, Faroe Farming is today fully vertical integrated company with smolt production, salmon farming, harvesting, portion production and sales.
