Over the past few years, for instance, we have invested heavily in the production of mussels in Ireland and the United Kingdom. We also have large cultivation beds in the German Wadden Sea to guarantee the supply of large quantities of mussels over the coming years. Through these investments we can guarantee quality mussels all year round, i.e. mussels boasting a high fish weight and containing no pea crabs.
Krijn Verwijs Yerseke was the first company outside Ireland to qualify for the QSP certificate. The company was awarded this certificate because of its sustainable approach to cultivating, processing and packaging its Irish mussels, allowing them to meet the high ‘Quality Seafood Programme’ requirements as set by the BIM/‘Irish Sea Fisheries Board’. Moreover, Krijn Verwijs has also acquired the ISO-22000 certificate, making it the first company in the mussel sector to have successfully completed the audit for ISO-22000.
