Polar Quality is an export company exporting fresh and frozen salmon to the EU, Eastern Europe, and Asia. The company emerged in 2002 when several salmon and trout farmers joined forces to establish their own export company. The owners represent the entire life cycle of the fish from hatcheries to smolt- and ongrowing production. In 2006 the total production of these fish farmers amounted to 17 000 tons, and Polar Quality sold parts thereof. The company also exports salmon from other farmers in Northern Norway. Polar Quality is located in Bodø, but has farmers distributed across the county of Nordland, and with such a broad spectrum of suppliers across such a large geographical area, the company can supply products of a consistent, high quality year-round.
Polar Quality is locally owned, by 8 small and medium sized fish farmers in Nordland County; farmers that have been in the industry for several decades. The company therefore has suppliers who can produce fish of a very high quality. They have modern, up-to-date facilities and equipment for slaughtering, packing, and freezing, and are thus able to meet the exacting demands for traceability in the market. There are four packing stations in total, of which one is utilized by several fish farmers as needed. Due to the versatility of the group, Polar Quality is very well placed to meet the customers’ demands.
