Back in 1974, Bertus Bakker began a business in unloading fish in the Port of IJmuiden. These activities, conducted under the name of Faktorij Bakker, were soon accompanied by grading, repacking in crates, and readying the fish for sale. The next – and obvious – step for the company was to include fish trading activities.
The company was first taken over by Dirk and Ronald Bakker; in 2001, Martijn Spilt took over the fish trading activities.
In the years that followed, Bakker Vis continued to outgrow its accommodations and repeatedly acquired surrounding buildings. The company is currently managed by Martijn Spilt and Martin Riemer.
What makes us unique is our rapid response to market demand and change as well as our sourcing channels (we almost always purchase directly from the source) and the excellent distribution options we can offer our customers.
We have our own cold store that holds up to 60,000 kg. of fish and we have specialised production lines for:
Filleting
Portioning
Vacuum packaging
Modified atmosphere packaging for all kinds of fish. We can also provide private label packaging for any of these products.
