TANZANIA INDUSTRIAL FISHING AND PROCESSORS ASSOCIATION (TIFPA) was formed in 2006 as a result of merging of two Associations namely Lake Victoria Fish Processors Association of Tanzania (LVFPAT) and Industrial Fishing and Processors Association (IFPA) Currently the Association has sixteen (16) members, eleven (11) operating at Lake Victoria in Tanzania and five (5) on the Tanzania coast. Members at Lake Victoria are confined to processing Nile Perch to obtain fillets for export. They are based in Mwanza, Bukoba and Musoma. Those members based on the coast fish for prawns and collect, process and export lobsters, prawns, octopus, squid and cuttle fish. The Association aims at providing a forum to deliberate on issues related to industrial fishing and processing, to design and coordinate activities and relationship between the members as employers and their employees and also to act as a catalyst for the development of the fishing and processing industry in Tanzania.
