The company began in 1920, David Steven started out with little more than a horse and cart and , fittingly , the D Steven and Son's humble origins are symbolised by the horse's head display which , to this day , features prominently at the firm's main office.
D Steven and Son now have four depots, a fleet of 35 vehicles and 56 trailers. It has continued to use the local employment market where possible and has provided a lifeline between local industries and their markets whilst continuing to compete in a volatile market for 78 years.
But what founder David Steven lacked , resource-wise , in the beginning , he more than made up for in enthusiasm , sheer determination and a willingness to work hard in all weathers . This combination of traits soon paid dividends for the company and it grew from a profitable , small enterprise into a successful business dynasty.
