The Zupan family has been a part of the Portland community for the past 60 years.
At the age of 16, John Zupan began work as a courtesy clerk at Sheridan Fruit. His passion for the grocery industry was ignited, and he spent subsequent years working & specializing in produce, spending 11 years at Fred Meyer as the Produce Manager and Produce District Manager. In 1975, John decided to venture out on his own. The history of Zupan's Markets had begun.
Zupan's stores are different. They focus on quality, selling everything from the best meats and wines to the freshest produce, baked goods, & flowers, emphasizing locally-sourced items whenever possible. Food-loving customers, as well as local chefs, quickly learned that Zupan’s was the place to find the best in Portland— and 36 years later, the same continues to be true.
Zupan's is still family-owned. John's son, Mike, took the reins in early 2000 and works every day to ensure Zupan's always finds the best-tasting, highest-quality items. John continued through his death in 2011 to take an active role in supporting his original dream and desire to offer the freshest, very best food to Portland area food-lovers.
