Mwea Aquafish Farm (MAF) is a center of excellence in Tilapia and Catfish breeding. It was started in 2009 and is located 1.5 kilometers from Kimbimbi town on the Nairobi/Embu highway 110 kilometers North East of Nairobi.
Most of the staff reside on the farm and frequent the facilities to monitor activities that run throughout.
There are 30 static ponds of various dimensions depending on usage. Twenty have PVC liners (8 measuring 300 m2) and 10 are earthen sitting on good clay soils. In addition, there are 8 hexagonal concrete tanks for holding catfish and tilapia fry. The farm has a temperature controlled catfish hatchery, a two bed room permanent guest house, two offices, a large class room with a capacity to sit 40 students and a large feed store.
