Atlantic Fresh Limited was formed by the merger of two Icelandic companies operating in the UK’s major fishing ports of Hull and Grimsby. A European office was opened in Boulogne at the end of the first year's trading, on 7 July 2008. The skills and experience both companies brought to the partnership has created one of Europe’s fastest and most efficient chilled product supply chains.
The direct involvement of the Hull business in the building of that port’s pioneering Fishgate fish trading centre has been a key element of the Atlantic Fresh success. In addition to state-of-the-art controlled environment fish handling and processing operations Fishgate also introduced electronic marketing and tracking systems.
All this brought the fishermen closer to the consumer. The result is a “traceability trail” which can track the fish from the moment of catch to the point of sale. This is not only a quality assurance (fish can be on European markets within 72 hours of catching) but an inbuilt monitoring and recording system to answer consumer concerns over sustainability and environmental issues.
