Our Engineering team has been working with slurry ice for over 30 years Capacities are available from 2 to 120 tons of ice per day from a single Ice Generator. For greater capacity, multiple Ice Generators can be selected. The system capacity is based on the weight of ice crystals in slurry solution. For example, a 120 ton Ice Generator will produce 360 tons of slurry with 33% ice fraction. In order to realize the full ice generating capacity of IceGen models, we recommend that a pre-chiller be included in the system. Slurry ice is a water-based solution mixed with ice crystals. Slurry ice can be produced by mixing water with a freezing point suppressant and then cooling this mixture so the ice crystals can be formed. The subsequent temperature of the slurry ice solution depends on the percentage and type of additives used to suppress the freeze point. Common suppressants include sugars, salts, glycols, and alcohols. At 20% ice fraction, slurry ice acts like chilled water with similar flow characteristics, but can deliver 30 times the cooling capacity.
