ALERT: Vietnamese fish exporters claim to be victims of fraud VIET NAM Wednesday, January 18, 2017, 00:50 (GMT + 9) Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (Vasep) has issued a warning to alert its members to avoid and review any transactions with Canadian company Echopack Inc. The warning came after Vinh Hoan, a major seafood producer in the Mekong Delta province of Dong Thap, became the latest victim of professional scammers. The company successfully delivered the shipments, but has not been able to collect the money from the buyer. “This is a scam orchestrated by the buyer and its bank,” Tran Van Pham, general director of seafood company Stapimex, which is at risk of losing USD 200,000, said. According to Vasep, banks representing Vietnamese exporters sent documents requesting General Equity Bank to pay on behalf its client Echopack.
