The Foundation for Sustainable Fishery Development (Stichting Duurzame Visserijontwikkeling vzw) was founded on 8 September 2004, and its goal is to promote, guide and support the interests of the Belgian sea fishery cluster in all areas that contribute to the sustainability of fishery. Ultimately, the efforts of the association are always focused on the social-societal benefit of sea fishermen and ship owners and all those who depend on fishery.
SDVO wishes to contribute to the creation of conditions that will ensure the rational and responsible exploitation of fish stocks on a sustainable basis.
In so doing it takes into consideration the objectives of the Common Fisheries Policy, and therefore also the guidelines of the European Committee for Research into Supportive Measures for Countries in the fishery and aquaculture industry. This derives from the way SDVO is registered with the European authorities with respect to its activities.
