The Fish Harvesters’ Resource Centres (FRC) were established in 1993 through a joint partnership agreement between the FFAW/CAW Fish, Food and Allied Workers Union and the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) which would see a network of harvester-based resource centres developed throughout Newfoundland and Labrador to provide information, resources, and support to the fish harvesters of the province. The FRC provides technical and business development support to harvesters, processors, and other stakeholders involved in the fishing industry in Newfoundland and Labrador. The FRC plays an important role in assisting and supporting the restructuring of the Newfoundland and Labrador fishing industry through its work with fish harvesters and community groups, and by identifying local needs and conducting fisheries research and development initiatives in the industry.
