ASC

ASCASC is the acronym for Aquaculture Stewardship Council, an independent not for profit organisation.

The ASC was founded in 2010 by WWF and IDH (Dutch Sustainable Trade Initiative) to manage the global standards for responsible aquaculture, which are developed by the Aquaculture Dialogues, a program of roundtables initiated and coordinated by WWF.

More than a standards holding body, the ASC is a global transformation system for aquaculture, which achieves:
Credibility: the standards are developed according to ISEAL guidelines, multi-stakeholder, open and transparent, science-based performance metrics.
Effectiveness: minimising the environmental and social footprint of commercial aquaculture by addressing key impacts.
Added value: connecting the farm to the marketplace by promoting responsible practices through a consumer label.
BAP

The Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) standards address environmental and social responsibility, animal welfare, food safety and traceability in a voluntary certification program for aquaculture facilities.

BAP certification defines the most important elements of responsible aquaculture and provides quantitative guidelines by which to evaluate adherence to those practices.

The BAP program outlines standards for each type of facility, from hatchery and feed mill to farm to processing plant.
BRC

BRC

BRC Food Technical Standards is used by British Retail Consortium to evaluate manufacturers of retailers own brand food products.

It is designed to assist retailers and brand owners produce food products of consistent safety and quality and assist with their 'due diligence' defence, should they be subject to a prosecution by the enforcement authorities.

Under EU food Law, retailers and brand owners have a legal responsibility for their brands.
GlobalG.A.P.

GlobalGAP

The GLOBAL G.A.P standard is primarily designed to reassure consumers about how food is produced on the farm.

The goals are to minimise detrimental environmental impacts of farming operations, reducing the use of chemical inputs and ensuring a responsible approach to worker health and safety as well as animal welfare.

FDA

FDA

FDA operates a mandatory safety program for all fish and fishery products. The program includes research, inspection, compliance, enforcement, outreach, and the development of regulations and guidance. As a cornerstone of that program, FDA publishes the Fish and Fisheries Products Hazards and Controls Guidance.

HACCPHACCP is FDA's Seafood program. Designed to increase the margin of safety that U.S. consumers already enjoyed and to reduce those illnesses that do occur to the lowest possible levels.

A part of HACCP is SSOPs (Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures) wich are documented steps to ensure adequate cleaning of product contact and non-product surfaces.

FDA also issue GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices) - a set of guidelines with nonbinding recommendations.

HACCP

HACCPHACCP is a management system in which food safety is addressed through the analysis and control of biological, chemical, and physical hazards from raw material production, procurement and handling, to manufacturing, distribution and consumption of the finished product.
