Sea Fisheries Committees have been responsible for the regional management of sea fisheries for over one hundred years and are accountable to their respective regions. The Devon Sea Fisheries Committee is one of twelve Sea Fisheries Committees (SFCs') in England and Wales, all of which subscribe to the Association of Sea Fisheries Committees whose Chief Executive represents their interests nationally. Since its formation in 1892 Devon Sea Fisheries Committee has grown from one man patrolling the ports and coastline, into a modern and effective working unit consisting of a Clerk and Chief Fisheries Officer, his Deputy, six Fishery Officers and one part time office manager.
