The foundation was laid by Mr. Berthold Paulus in 1954 of this private company of over 250 employees. To start off with, live Vineyard Snails were collected in south west Germany and mostly exported to France. The ever increasing demand caused the founder to develop his idea to utilize the excellent raw material of the Burgundy Snails (lat. Helix pomatia) for the production of table ready frozen Snails to market this concept. In the trend of that period to this day there followed also the production of fish, seafood, fruit, vegetables, mushrooms and ready meals. Under the banner „highest quality in the use of natural and clean raw material“, the greatest care is taken to guarantee the best quality at the appropriate price. The administration and one of the two production centres are located in South West Germany in 66663 Merzig/Saar, approximate 25 km from the French and Luxembourg borders. The second production centre, founded in 1994 is located in beautiful Thueringen. The sister companies of B. Paulus GmbH are Delimar GmbH established since 1987 and the existing Navarra Food (majority shareholding) established since 1997, once of the largest trout breeding farms in Europe and located in the Spanish Pyrenees.
