SeaShare is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit (tax-exempt) organization, founded in 1994. Our mission is to provide seafood for people who depend on food assistance from food banks, shelters, pantries and soup kitchens. In fulfilling our mission, our primary objectives are: Improved access to high quality food and improved health and nutrition for low income people in the United States; Reduction of discard waste of fish in state and federal fisheries; Improved utilization of seafood resources; To end hunger in the United States. To date, SeaShare has provided over 23-million pounds of seafood to hungry men, women and children in America. Awards: 2009 Outstanding Food Donor – Food Lifeline, Seattle, WA 2009 Certificate of Appreciation – Food Bank of Alaska, Anchorage, 2008 Evergreen Award for Groundbreaking Work in Partnerships and Collaboration from the Seattle-based Executive Alliance at the 14th Annual Washington State Non-profit Conference; 2006 Sustainable Fisheries Leadership Award in the categories of Community Service, Media, and Public Education from NOAA -U.S. Dept. of Commerce; Feeding America Hunger’s Hope Award (1995-2001); 1999 Environmental Hero Award from NOAA, presented by Vice President Al Gore. SeaShare has a long and colorful history of collaboration with the nation’s leading seafood companies and their suppliers to help people in need.
