SON Fish Farm Ltd is part of the Lake Harvest group and is based on Lake Victoria in Uganda. Established in 2005, SON has successfully completed a pilot project and on-the-job staff training programme and is now expanding to become a large scale tilapia farm. SON currently employs over 50 people and has an experienced start-up management team. Pond construction work began in mid 2005 and the company now has breeding and juvenile ponds at Bugungu Farm near Jinja, small cages in Lake Victoria and manufactures its own feed on site. SON aims to achieve 3,000 tonnes of tilapia production per annum by the end of 2012 and 10,000 tonnes by 2018. The company has a strong emphasis on health and safety, sustainability and community projects.
