24 November 1991 formed the Trade Association of mussel farmers in Chile, AMICHILE, the second guild's largest aquaculture and brings together key producers and processors of mussels in Chile.
At that time, 11 young pioneers of the mussel producers in Chile, as John and James Sanzana, Mario Cerna, and Leonidas Olave Sergio Mansilla, to name a few, at that time produced only 700 tonnes of fresh mussels, and decided to join forces and establish the statutes of the emerging partnership with the will to progress, develop mutual cooperation between partners and make direct work with the authorities.
AMICHILE currently has more than 40 partners, all companies and producers involved and informed, which represent over 60% of national production with an output of its members, estimated at 180,000 tonnes of fresh mussels for the 2009 season.
