Wild Pacific Albacore is a premium tuna, sustainably troll-caught in the temperate waters off Washington, Oregon and California. Also called white tuna, The Monterey Bay Aquarium's guide to sustainable seafood lists U.S. troll-caught albacore as a "Best Choice'' for consumers. WHAT DOES TROLL-CAUGHT MEAN? Fishers catch Wild Pacific Albacore by running small, barbless hooks or “jigs” behind a slow-moving boat – this is called trolling. Because jigs are designed to catch fish on the ocean’s surface, they simply cannot reach the older, larger albacore that swim in deep waters. This is why "troll-caught albacore" always refers to the younger, tastier, omega-3 rich albacore. There is near-zero by-catch with this method of fishing which is certified as sustainable by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC).
