Institute of Food and Resource Economics (FOI) was established January 1, 2004 as an independent institute at the Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University (KVL), according to clause 31 of the Danish University Act. The Institute was established in a merger between the former sector research institute, Danish Institute of Food Economics, under the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries and relevant units at the Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University, i.e. Unit of Economics, Unit of Learning and Interdisciplinary Methods and Unit of Bioethics and Risk Assessment. The Institute of Food and Resource Economics (FOI) conducts research-based consultancy assignments for the public sector concerning economic issues with regard to food, agriculture, fisheries and the environment as an integrated part of the overall communication strategy of the institute. The main activities of these services include the preparation of reports and notes as well as participation in committees and working groups. Research into the area of food and natural resources is linked to the production and consumption of foods and non-food products from the agricultural, horticultural and fishing sectors.
