Sea Fisheries Institute - the oldest marine research facility in Poland
Top of the Institute dates back to the appointment in June 1921 years in the Marine Fisheries Laboratory Helu, who were engaged in research in the field of hydrology and marine biology. At the turn of 1938/1939 was transferred to the MIR Gdynia, where he operates to this day - since 1991 the new headquarters.
Sea Fisheries Institute is one of the entities supervised by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
The scope of research activities include MIR fisheries biology, oceanography and ecology of sea fishing, fish processing technology and the economics of fishing.
MIR task is to provide a scientific basis for the rational exploitation of fisheries. Research is conducted at four research: Fishery Resources Division, Department of Fisheries Oceanography and Marine Ecology, Department of Economics Department of Fisheries and Processing Technology.
