famila-Handelsmarkt Kiel GmbH & Co. KG was founded in Kiel in 1974. Today, famila is one of the biggest food suppliers (supermarket chains) in Northern Germany. With more than 7000 employees and more than 400 apprentices the company is an important employer in this region.
The famila stores are famous for their friendly and roomy atmosphere, as well as for their first class product range (more than 40.000 goods) with high quality standards and manifold services. The enterprise is attached to its native region and, consequently, backs up the regional economy as there is a strong focus on regional products from producers in Northern Germany. Besides, good connections to communes, organizations and associations residing at the places of their stores play a very important role to famila. Most building jobs are given to local craftsmen to support the local business community.
Currently, famila has 81 stores in Schleswig Holstein, Hamburg, Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia, Brandenburg and Mecklenburg-West Pomerania. The famila group produces meat and sausages in their own butcher shop in Neumünster, Schleswig Holstein. Furthermore, famila has its own brand, named “Hofgut” which is known for its special quality and excellent price performance ratio for the full line of goods.
