The Baltic Sea Regional Advisory Council (BS RAC) was set up in March 2006 in line with a decision by the EU to create so-called Regional Advisory Councils in the fisheries sector. The main aim of the BS RAC is to advise the European Commission and Member States on matters relating to management of the fisheries in the Baltic Sea. The BS RAC is one of seven Regional Advisory Councils established by the European Council to increase stakeholder involvement in the development of a successful Common Fisheries Policy. The other RACs are for the Mediterranean Sea, the North Sea, North western waters, South-western waters, Pelagic stocks and High seas/long distance fleet.
