E l Institute of Marine Sciences of Andalucia (ICMAN) has a recent history, but its roots date back to 1943, when the CSIC founded the Institute of Applied Biology . The Institute of Marine Sciences of Andalucia is located in the Campus Universitario Río San Pedro ", University of Cadiz in the town of Puerto Real, 1 km of this town, 7 km from the capital, Cádiz. This campus also are Faculties of Science, Marine Science, Naval and Marine Civil Engineering and the School of Education. In its immediate surroundings are the Pinar de Algaida and marshes of the San Pedro, included in the Cadiz Bay Natural Park.
