H. van Wijnen, a family owned company that started fishing for salmon in Dutch rivers – and occasionally smoking their catch – as far back as 1700. Officially founded in 1864, the company has grown into one of Europe’s oldest and most prestigious smokehouses, with around 100 employees and an annual turnover of 40 million euros. Their continuing goal: to create the best tasting, highest quality, environmentally friendly smoked fish. In order to stay competitive and enable future growth, H. van Wijnen found a hands-on partner in Nimbus.
Over the last few years, H. van Wijnen managed to grow, doubling its sales between 2010 and 2015. However, results were negatively impacted by a variety of external factors in 2016 and 2017. Despite these challenges, the family business continued its primary focus on quality and craft. With an apparent need for investments in the factory, as well as commercial and operational support, H. van Wijnen decided to join forces with Nimbus. In doing so, Nimbus acquired a majority share of the company and supplemented Van Wijnen’s management team.
