Tuna Cooperative was organized in accordance with Philippin elaws on March 29, 1995 by virtue of the Certificate of Registration Number RN-3691-Davao issued by the Cooperative Development Authority - Davao Extension Office. Its principal place of business is located at General Santos Fish Port Complex, Tambler, General Santos City.
The primary objective of the cooperative is to engage in the joint production and processing of tuna and fishing products and marketing thereof, as well as generate funds and extend credit to the members for productive and provident purposes. It is an agricultural multi-purpose cooperative which shall be opened to all fish producers and traders.
Tuna Cooperative of Gensan is primarily composed of tuna handline fishermen. This sector utilizes handline boats (locally known as pumpboats) using hook and line to catch large tuna. This group has about two thousand fishing boats, and employs over 40,000 fishermen.
