Bemis Company, Inc. (Public, NYSE:BMS) is a manufacturer of flexible packaging products and pressure sensitive materials. The Company sells its products to customers throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, South America, Europe, and Asia Pacific.
Eleven companies operate 84 facilities in 13 countries under the Bemis banner, with 2008 combined net sales of $3.8 billion. Nearly two-thirds of Bemis packaging is used in the food industry, with the balance used in markets including medical, pharmaceutical, chemical and agribusiness.
It operates in two segments: Flexible Packaging and Pressure Sensitive Materials. During the year ended December 31, 2008, approximately 83% of the Company’s sales were derived from the Flexible Packaging segment, and approximately 17% were derived from the Pressure Sensitive Materials segment. The Company’s products are sold to customers primarily in the food industry.
In June 2009, the Company acquired the South American rigid packaging operations of Huhtamaki Oyj, a manufacturer of consumer and specialty packaging.
