Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation is a financial institution engaged in the banking business. It has two segments. The Banking segment is involved in banking business, including deposits, loans, securities trading, securities investment, domestic and foreign exchange, financial future exchange agency, corporate bond entrusted services and registration, trust, securities brokerage and insurance agency, among others.
The Others segment is involved in the credit card, operation advisory, membership operation, fund accommodation, factoring, bill collecting agency, information processing, consulting service provision, information system development, costumer financing, operation and management of defined contribution pension. In September 2009, ORIX Corp. sold 51% stake of its wholly owned subsidiary, ORIX Credit Corp. to the Company. In September 2009, Citigroup Inc. completed the sale of Nikko Cordial Securities to the Company.
