Big Catch as it is today has been around for some 16 years. Initially the business started of as an importer of Long Line fishing gear specifically for the Tuna and Swordfish market. This came about as a result of the demise of the Japanese fleet fishing in South African waters and new licences being granted to the local fishing industry.
At the time the Japanese used their own system which was very different to that used by the Americans, where an alternative industry was practiced. We chose to go with the American system which was mono based versus the rope system used by the Japanese. This decision was mainly due to the availability of American Skippers and Fishing Masters; who could pass on their knowledge without having the added problem of a language barrier.
Over the years Big Catch has evolved from purely bringing in long line gear for our own vessels to trading in the long line gear, to over the last two years trading in most forms of fishing gear, tackle and bait.
Our premises are based in Paarden Eiland where we carry an extensive range of gear both for the wholesale market as well as the retail market.
Through our exclusive supply agreement with suppliers in Taiwan, Japan and China we are able to ship product to our customers anywhere in the world.
