Chedraui is a Mexican grocery store and department store chain that is not listed at Mexican Stock Exchange. It was founded in 1927 in Xalapa, Veracruz. In 1971 it opened the first supermarket in Xalapa, Veracruz. In 2005 it bought 29 supermarkets from Carrefour. Chedraui competes primarily with companies like Wal-Mart.   According to Hoover's, "Mexico's fourth-largest retailer, the supermarket giant sells groceries, apparel, and non-perishable items in about 90 self-service Chedraui stores operating in 13 eastern and southern Mexican states. Chedraui also owns about 15 La Hogaza bakeries and it has a large stake in Bodega Latina, which has half a dozen El Super supermarkets in the Los Angeles area.
