The Center for Mariculture Calheta (CMC) is the headquarters of the Maritime Division of Aquaculture, one of three divisions of the Directorate of Fisheries (Regional Directorate of Fisheries , Ministry for the Environment and Natural Resources).
The activities at the Centre, are essentially based on two components: the production of traditional aquaculture species - bream (Sparus aurata) - and research of new species with potential for aquaculture.
In the field of research, the CMC is dedicated, yet, their efforts in developing breeding techniques, nutrition and growth on the species of interest to aquaculture.
