The State Foundation for Agricultural Research (Fepagro), established in 1994, is a public foundation linked to the State Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation. However, research work began in 1919, the time of creation of Alfredo Chaves Seed Selection Station, today Veranópolis. Since then, public agricultural research of Rio Grande do Sul has built a history of pioneering and excellence.
This path led to the emergence of more than a dozen research stations, which formed four research institutes linked to the Research Department of the Secretariat of Agriculture. From the merger of the Departments of Research and Fisheries ultimately arises Fepagro, unifying and enhancing public agricultural research in the state.
A Fundação Estadual de Pesquisa Agropecuária (Fepagro), criada em 1994, é uma fundação pública vinculada à Secretaria Estadual da Agricultura, Pecuária e Irrigação. Contudo, os trabalhos de pesquisa tiveram início em 1919, época da criação da Estação de Seleção de Sementes de Alfredo Chaves, hoje Veranópolis. Desde então, a pesquisa agropecuária pública do Rio Grande do Sul construiu uma história de pioneirismo e excelência.
Esta trajetória levou ao surgimento de mais de uma dezena de estações experimentais, que formaram quatro institutos de pesquisa vinculados ao Departamento de Pesquisa da Secretaria da Agricultura. A partir da fusão dos Departamentos de Pesquisa e de Pesca, finalmente surge a Fepagro, unificando e potencializando a pesquisa agropecuária pública no Estado.
