Lakeland Smolt commenced operations in 1987 from two sites in Cumbria chosen for their exceptional water quality and disease free status. The hatchery and head office is at Holmwrangle, near Armathwaite, with additional smolt units at Haweswater Reservoir some 30 miles further south.
Lakeland Smolt also operate in Argyll on the west coast of Scotland, with freshwater sites in Cairndow, Furnace and Carnasserie. We also operate further sites in the north of Scotland and Shetland (Lakeland Unst). This gives Lakeland the ability, year after year, to supply customers with the finest eggs.
In 2009 Lakeland supplied in excess of 8.5 million smolts of which over 4 million were out of season.
