Loch Fyne Seafarms Limited was set up in 1987 by Gordon Goldsworthy and AM Seafoods Ltd, with the aim of cultivating king and queen scallops in the clear, unpolluted waters of Loch Fyne on the west coast of Scotland.
Scallops are seen as a high value, low risk species, with good farming potential and the project was fully supported by the Highlands and Islands Enterprise and the European Union.
Loch Fyne Seafarms operates from five Crown Estate leased sea sites, all of which are routinely monitored for water quality. Production is increasing every year and as at the year 2000, over five million king and queen scallops were harvested and processed in the Company's own purpose built factory. In 1998, the factory had to be expanded to cope with increased production and demand from both Continental and UK customers.
