Productos Oceanos, S.A. is located in Puerta Coquira, five miles up the Bayano River from Panama’s fish rich Pacific Coast. The twenty six thousand foot facility services our thirty longline vessels (see below) with it’s own shipyard and unloading dock and is capable of further processing up to thirty thousand pounds of finished product per day.
The longliners average fifty to sixty feet in length, carry a crew of five and are capable of harvesting and refrigerating thirty five thousand pounds of snapper, corvina, grouper, mahi-mahi, swordfish and tuna, their targeted species. The harvest is kept at 28 to 30 degrees F with refrigerated salt water. As owners of the fleet, we are able to stagger landings to ensure continuity of supply.
They fish using baited turtle safe hooks which are set in the evening and retrieved at first dawn, ensuring that the catch is landed live, ensuring that they can be bled prior to being refrigerated. Species dependent, some fish are caught using downriggers with power assisted retrival.
